Every year, thousands of people with cancer from around the world come to Dana-Farber for their care. Here are some of the reasons why:

We focus exclusively on cancer

Unlike general hospitals, Dana-Farber specializes exclusively in cancer treatment and research. Every employee at the hospital, from the office assistants to the chief of staff, is committed entirely to supporting patients with all kinds of cancer — including the rarest forms — and to finding a cure for the disease.

We put our patients and families first

Dana-Farber was one of 2 hospitals in the country singled out as a leader in providing patient- and family-centered care in Patient- and Family-Centered Care: Partnerships for Quality and Safety, a video produced by the American Hospital Association and the Institute for Family-Centered Care.

Dana-Farber's adult and pediatric patient and family advisory councils play an integral role in almost all decisions made at the hospital regarding patient care.

We are committed to providing the highest quality of safe, timely, and efficient care to our patients and families. In order to do this, we set standards for our own practices and measure ourselves against other comprehensive cancer centers nationwide.

We are widely recognized as one of the best

Dana-Farber has been ranked as the best cancer hospital in New England and sixth best in the nation in U.S. News and World Report's "America's Best Hospitals" survey.

As a Harvard Medical School affiliate, we recruit some of the best and brightest physicians and researchers in the world.

We've teamed up with other Harvard Medical School–affiliated hospitals

Dana-Farber has partnered with 2 of the nations finest hospitals — Brigham and Women's Hospital and Children's Hospital Boston — to provide a complete system of integrated care for both adults and children with cancer.

We make the latest research advances available to our patients today

Dana-Farber's physician-researchers are involved in some of the most significant breakthroughs in cancer research and care. These discoveries, such as Gleevec® for treating CML and GIST, are made available to our patients often months or years before they are available at other hospitals.

Dana-Farber offers more than 400 adult and pediatric therapeutic clinical trials, in which many future cancer treatments methods are being tested today. Learn more about clinical trials.

We believe in treating the "whole patient"

Dana-Farber founder Sidney Farber, MD, pioneered the concept of comprehensive patient care as early as the 1950s, in which patients are seen not only by physicians and nurses, but also by specialists in other areas of cancer care, such as social work and nutrition.

We are a leader in providing care for cancer survivors

As more people survive cancer each year, Dana-Farber has blazed new trails in counseling cancer survivors about health challenges they may face as a result of treatment.
